While home ownership provides a tangible platform for building long-term equity and future wealth, affordable housing finance is a vital concern for Janalakshmi's customer base. The Parliamentary Committee on Urban Development, Report on Housing, 2009, estimates the housing shortage to be roughly 25 million units, with over 80% of that shortage stemming from the Economically Weaker Sector (EWS).

A pioneer in the field, Janalakshmi intends to fulfill its customers' dreams of home ownership through an innovative end-to-end market driven solution. Janalakshmi aims to provide affordable financing to those in need, while also increasing the existing supply of housing stock through a partnership with Janadhaar Constructions. The first stages of this project are already under way:

Janalakshmi's strategic partner, Janaadhar Constructions Pvt. Ltd., will create a stock of high quality affordable housing.
Housing stock will then be offered to customers of Janalakshmi, with a certain amount of upfront investment on the part of the customer.
The balance of the cost will be provided for in a housing loan, to be repaid by the customer in equated monthly installments.
The housing complex will be equipped with various amenities including a play ground, a school, a crèche etc.
Janalakshmi will operate as a full service provider, offering financial services for every aspect of the customer's lives.
